Purpose of the foundation
The Hans-Jürgen Schinzler Foundation is a platform for Munich Re voluntary initiatives. It brings together retired and current Munich Re employees who are keen to become involved in charitable projects (corporate volunteering).
Dr. Hans-Jürgen Schinzler was Chairman of the Board of Management of Munich Re until 2003. At the end of his long period of service with the company, he wanted to give back something from his many positive experiences. The Munich Re Board of Management then took up Dr. Schinzler’s idea and developed it further with him. On 30 June 2004, the Dr. Hans-Jürgen Schinzler Foundation was officially recognised as a charitable and non-profit association by the Supervisory Authority for Foundations of the regional government of Upper Bavaria.
The foundation’s assets were contributed in equal parts by Dr. Schinzler and Munich Re.
What is corporate volunteering?
Corporate volunteering is the term given to voluntary community work undertaken by the staff of business organisations for the benefit of society as a whole. There is a wide spectrum of activities. These range from children and youth programmes to providing support for older people, people with disabilities and the homeless.
Corporate volunteering at Munich Re
The Foundation’s projects are open to all current and former Munich Re employees worldwide. The foundation aims to support staff in their volunteer work in various social sectors, provided the projects meet its criteria for funding. The Schinzler Foundation also operates as a platform where ideas can be exchanged and contacts established, and also provides information on solutions to current social issues.
